Welcome to the Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion Family Medicine Residency Program!

Family medicine offers the unique opportunity to care for patients across the lifespan, build lasting relationships, and make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. At Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion, we are committed to preparing excellent family physicians while helping each resident discover their own passions and path within our broad specialty.

Located in Southwest Virginia, our program provides comprehensive training across urban, suburban, and rural settings. Residents care for diverse patient populations and gain experience in both community-based practice and at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center and tertiary referral center. Our flexible curriculum, including four specialized tracks and eight areas of concentration, allows residents to individualize their training based on their interests and future career goals.

Just as important as the breadth of training is the environment in which it occurs. Our faculty are deeply invested in resident education, mentorship, and growth. We strive to create a supportive learning community where residents are challenged, encouraged to reflect, and given increasing autonomy as they develop their own identities as family physicians.
