Virginia Tech Partnership

Residents and fellows work closely with the students, medical educators, and research scientists from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. This partnership leverages Virginia Tech’s world-class strength in basic sciences, bioinformatics and engineering with Carilion Clinic’s highly experienced medical staff and rich history in graduate medical education.

Mission, Goals and Strengths

The mission of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at VTCSOM is to honor Carilion Clinic’s mission: “Improving the health of the communities we serve.”

Our program aims include:

  1. Graduate competent palliative medicine physicians who can practice independently in outpatient hospice and/or inpatient or outpatient consultative services.
  2. Encourage yearly participation in research and/or quality improvement projects related to palliative care and/or end of life care.
  3. Teach the importance of professional collaboration on an interprofessional team.
