Interventional Cardiology Fellowship
Mission, Goals and Strengths
The mission of the Interventional Cardiology fellowship training program is to produce knowledgeable, skilled and caring interventional cardiologists, all of whom will be competent at performing elective and acute coronary interventions and elective peripheral vascular disease, noninvasive and invasive diagnostic studies.
- Our program is designed to train fellows to be well prepared for a successful career in both private practice or academic interventional cardiology positions.
- Our geographic location and large catchment area enables us to teach fellows how to navigate through the complex and heterogeneous logistics of caring for patients in urban, suburban and rural settings, especially with respect to urgent and emergency interventional cardiac procedures.
- Our program offers both academically and culturally diverse faculty members who are fully committed to the process of fellow education and training.
- We train fellows to understand appropriate indications and contraindications for all interventional cardiac procedures. We ensure that fellows understand all the important clinical variables to determine appropriate patient selection and informed decision making.
- We promote the development of a close mentorship relationship for each fellow with the program director or a selected faculty member in order to provide counseling and professional development throughout the training year.
- We maintain a well-structured and protected outpatient continuity clinic experience where fellows can work closely with an assigned faculty member and nursing staff in order to develop the requisite skills for the care of interventional cardiology patients.
