Living in Roanoke
Roanoke and the surrounding counties are an outdoor-lover's paradise. With over 400 miles of paved and natural surface trails, our city is perfect for biking, running, and walking. The Roanoke Greenway is a 14-mile paved path that runs directly adjacent to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) and several outpatient clinics. It is the perfect way to unwind after a workday.
Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital sits at the base of Mill Mountain and is directly under the famous Mill Mountain Star. Mill Mountain offers a 10-mile trail system for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running. In additional, the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 470-mile continuous road that passes through Roanoke and includes 1,000 miles of trails in our region, is just minutes away. The trail system includes regional favorites, including Dragon's Tooth, McAfee Knob, Sharp Top, Tinker Cliffs, and the Virginia Triple Crown Loop.
Beyond the spectacle of great outdoors, there are unique restaurants, museums, and exhibits to explore. For the wine, beer, and spirit enthusiast, Roanoke and surrounding region host an extensive array of wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Below are links to some of our favorite outdoor spots, restaurants, and activities.
