Psychiatry Residency

Welcome to the Virginia Tech-Carilion Clinic School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency Program! Here at Carilion we are part of a large academic medical center dedicated to providing the best care for our patients in a patient centered culture. Our hospitals serve over one million Virginians. We can offer exceptional exposure to different kinds of patients and pathologies. Our residency program is well established and is deeply integrated into our healthcare System at Carilion and with our community partners including the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Catawba State hospital, and the Bradley Free Clinic. Here at Carilion you will find attendings with both general and subspeciality expertise who are not just content experts but are also teaching experts. 

One of the most important things in our program is our commitment to the idea that residents are learners and the importance of the educational mission. We aim to create a supportive and nurturing environment where residents thrive. We also pride ourselves on being flexible in how that education happens and we are good at creating individualized and unique learning opportunities. 

We have a robust mentoring program for our residents and multiple platforms where residents can give feedback to the program to help us improve and adapt.
