Welcome to the Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship program.
Training focuses on child development, encouraging trainees to view clinical problems from multiple perspectives simultaneously.
Child psychopathology is taught through the lenses of developmental, family systems and biological theories, highlighting both the impact of trauma and the potential for resilience.
Fellows learn to use psychological testing, when appropriate, to facilitate diagnosis and to monitor treatment progress.
Our program emphasizes child psychotherapy: Play therapy, family therapies and cognitive behavioral therapy for children are taught with the guidance of experienced supervisors.
Fellows have protected time for therapy throughout the training program.
Individual interests are encouraged.
Research projects, teaching medical students and individual electives are all possible for fellows.
