Dermatology Residency
Welcome!
Our program aims to train outstanding dermatologists with the core values of lifelong learning and service to the specialty and community. The ideal applicant is a self-motivated physician with a strong work ethic and desire to become a leader in a small program. The program provides opportunities to teach other residents and students within a structured faculty-directed curriculum.
Program Overview
- Mission Statement
The mission of our program is to train outstanding dermatologists who provide excellent care and advance our field through clinical practice, scholarship, teaching, and leadership. We are proud of the breadth and depth of experiences we offer with expert faculty in medical, surgical, cosmetic, and pediatric dermatology as well as dermatopathology. We consist of a medium-sized faculty who serve patients throughout southwestern and central Virginia areas as well as from the neighboring states of West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
Our residents develop early autonomy through management of routine and complex dermatologic diseases in their continuity clinics, as well as subspecialty expertise through rotations in faculty clinics. In addition to the outpatient clinic experience, our program offers in-depth training in procedural dermatology, inpatient dermatology, teledermatology, and teaching and research opportunities in affiliation with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
Our dermatology residency is a fully accredited three-year training program. Upon successful completion of training, residents are eligible for certification by the American Board of Dermatology and capable of becoming future leaders within the field of dermatology.
