We have a very robust group of Academic Specialists here at Carilion Clinic. We have twenty-eight providers, twenty physicians and a midwife in our OB/GYN Generalist Division. These physicians provide a wide variety of focus area of care including substance use disorder in pregnancy, menopause care, pelvic pain and minimally invasive surgery. We have seven locations of outpatient care and operate in four different hospitals in Southwest Virginia. The makeup of our department includes the Dean of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine as well as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) of the Graduate Medical Education Department. That shows how robust our group is and the type of experience you will get as a resident here at Virginia Tech Carilion.

"Midwifery in the Academic setting is an opportunity for everyone to collaborate and learn along side one another. We are all lifetime learners, always gaining more knowledge and trust, in our abilities to care for and serve the needs of women and families. When you can have midwives working alongside physicians and residents, everyone gets the benefit of everyone’s expertise." - Tina Johnson, CNM
