Considerations for Applying
We offer two PGY1 training positions each year. Current PGY1 residents will graduate into their second PGY2 year.
- How to Apply
Application materials and supporting documentation must be submitted through PASS. Applicants must have completed either a pre-or postdoctoral program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. We do not participate in MATCH. Applications will open May 13th, 2026, for the 2027-2028 application cycle.
Applicants must fulfill the following requirements to be considered for admission:
- Graduate of a CODA-accredited dental school or from a 1-year CODA-accredited post-doctoral program.
- ADEA PASS application, including transcripts, personal essay, CV/Resume, NBDE/INDBE results.
- Professional evaluation forms (submit through PASS)
- Applicants should rank in the top half of their dental school class and applicants should have a GPA of 3.5 or higher in dental school, or a 3.0 GPA or higher if they have significant clinical experience
- Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted dental license from the state of Virginia, or a training dental license from the state of Virginia.
- Letters of recommendation should be strongly supportive of scholastic potential, clinical abilities, personal characteristics and community service missions.
- Candidates are evaluated on a fair and equal basis, regardless of gender, age, religion, national origin, cultural background, disability or veteran status.
Applicant submissions are reviewed by the Selection Committee, which consists of the program director and at least two other faculty members. Applicants who are considered for the program must participate in a personal interview that is conducted in October/November.
