Welcome from Dr. Miller

Thank you for your interest in Carilion Clinic’s Pediatric Dental Residency program! I am thrilled for you to learn more about all that we have to offer. Our program provides a excellent balance between didactic knowledge and clinical experience in all areas of pediatric dentistry: 

• Extensive experience in handling traumatic injuries to the teeth and jaws of children 
• Substantial clinical experience in busy hospital clinic, and heavy exposure to patients with special health care needs
• Weekly hospital cases in outpatient or inpatient hospital facilities
• Formal training in health policy and advocacy
• Availability of resources and consultants in all areas of pediatric health care
• Partnership with Virginia tech school of medicine
• Interaction with GP residents and coordination of care for adolescents and more complexes cases. 
• ACPA accredited craniofacial team, with craniofacial clinic biweekly

About Our Program

Location

Carilion Clinic is a not-for-profit health care organization based in Roanoke, Virginia with a catchment area of greater than one million people. Our location in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia gives our residents the unique opportunity to serve the urban communities of Roanoke, as well as the surrounding rural and refugee populations.

Program Aims

Our pediatric dentistry graduates meet the advanced education eligibility requirements of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. The program is designed to fully prepare the resident for board certification, specialty practice, in private, public and hospital settings and provides educational opportunities for those who desire to pursue a teaching or research career in pediatric dentistry.

Virginia Tech Partnership

Residents and fellows work closely with the students, medical educators, and research scientists from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. This partnership leverages Virginia Tech’s world-class strength in basic sciences, bioinformatics and engineering with Carilion Clinic’s highly experienced medical staff and rich history in graduate medical education.
