What distinguishes Carilion Clinic from many health systems is its vast geographic reach and longstanding focus on community health, its seven hospitals and dozens of clinics in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley extending throughout southwest Virginia from the border of West Virginia to the North Carolina state line, reaching communities on the front lines of the opioid epidemic.
- Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Most of the fellows' training will take place at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a large, not-for-profit tertiary/quaternary hospital system affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
- Salem Veteran's Administration Medical Center
Fellows will participate in the Domiciliary Care Program (DOM) at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
- Roanoke Comprehensive Treatment Center
Fellows will gain experience in prescribing methadone at the Roanoke Comprehensive Treatment Center.
- Carilion Clinic Interdisciplinary Office-Based Addiction Treatment Program (OBAT)
Fellows will gain experience treating all addictions and will work with physicians, ACPs, care navigators, therapists, peer support specialists, and clinical pharmacists.
- Carilion Clinic Emerald Program: Interdisciplinary Clinic for Pregnant and Parenting Women with Substance Use Disorders
Carilion Women's Emerald Program focuses on helping women through pregnancy and the fourth trimester. The fellow will help provide
- Collaborative interdisciplinary care with obstetricians, addiction medicine providers, perinatal psychiatrists, clinical pharmacy, therapists, care navigators, and peer support specialists
- Medications for addiction treatment during pregnancy and lactation
- On-site behavioral health management including group, individual and family therapy
- Individualized care coordination services
- Opportunities for learning about parenting preparedness, healthy relationship-building, stress management, effective communication and overall health and wellness in a pregnant and parenting patients
