Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship
Curriculum
The fellowship is a one-year training program designed to give geriatric psychiatry fellows a comprehensive experience. Fellows are exposed to geriatric psychiatry patients in the inpatient, ambulatory, consultative, palliative care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and long-term care settings.
Fellows will interact with geriatric psychiatrists, geriatricians, physiatrists and allied health personnel in a multidisciplinary model. The curriculum combines a longitudinal and a rotational curricular model.
One half day each week is dedicated to research, self-selected mentoring and elective time. Seminar lectures focus on various aspects or research. Fellows will develop a research project and topic by Aug. 1 of their fellowship year, and a research mentor will be assigned.
Didactic sessions are held weekly with geriatric psychiatry faculty as well as faculty members from various departments, including geriatric medicine, neuropsychology, palliative medicine and neurology. Fellows are also expected to present and contribute in Journal Club sessions. Didactic topics are reviewed and updated yearly to fulfill geriatric psychiatry requirements.
