Research

Our fellowship faculty are very active in ongoing research as well as in providing education for providers, caregivers and our community in the field of geriatric psychiatry.

We believe that the ability to participate and feel comfortable in such educational formats is vital to the success of a geriatric psychiatrist. We are, therefore, committed to mentoring and fostering these skills in our fellows, including didactic education in the use of various forms of technology and presentation software. Our graduating fellows have participated in drug trials, retrospective and prospective clinical studies and have worked with biomedical engineers in developing age-appropriate technology to improve autonomy which has led to publications and multiple poster presentations.

In collaboration with Virginia Tech and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, we are continually exploring novel research ideas that are innovative and clinically relevant. From these relationships we are able to provide our fellows with exposure to innovative research in the fields of behavioral health and neuroscience. This program provides an excellent training experience for all fellows.
